Preparing Your Study
Are you seeking guidance on how to prepare your study at TIL?
Here are all information you need to know before you leave for your study.
- Wayne State University IRB Consent/Assent Form:
Before engaging in the study, you are required to complete the IRB Consent/Assent Form with either the study Principal Investigator (PI) or a member of the research team (RA). This form will elucidate the expectations of study participants, including the necessary time commitment. Additionally, you will receive contact information for the PI and/or RA. Please ensure you have the means to contact someone in case of emergencies or illness that may hinder a scheduled appointment.
- MRI Screening form to check MRI eligibility:
The PI/RA will ensure that you are eligible to participate in the study and conduct preliminary screening for the MRI, where applicable. You should be asked to complete a metal screening form to ascertain that there are no contraindications for the MRI.
- Prepare for Your Study:
Location: Familiarize yourself with the location of TIL and ensure you arrive on time. Your experiment has a designated time slot, and if you are unable to make it, please contact your PI/RA directly.
Jewelry and Piercings: Please remove all body piercings. In case you have non-removable piercings, plastic piercing "holders" are available. Be aware that TIL does not possess specialized equipment to remove piercings.
How To Dress: We want you to feel comfortable during your exam. Please try to wear the most comfortable cloths you have without any metallic objects. However, some modern stretch athletic clothing contains small metal threads used to combat odor and prevent bacterial growth. Regrettably, these metal threads can be hazardous during MRIs. We also advise against wearing clothing items that use “coolmax” or “silver technology” since they typically involve metal threads.
- When You Arrive:
Confirm the meeting location and arrival time with your PI/RA. If instructed to come directly to TIL, ensure you know the precise location. Upon arrival, please call your PI/RA, who will open the entrance door to welcome you.
For your convenience, a Participant Preparation Checklist.pdf is available to assist you in preparing for your study. Feel free to print or download it before your study. Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the PI/RA. We eagerly anticipate meeting you!
